As a worried parent of high school kids, the issue of school safety weighs heavily on my mind. I'm deeply concerned about the rise in school shootings that our country has been witnessing. A school shooting could happen anywhere, which is why I feel it's crucial to take all proactive measures possible. That's why I'm advocating for the installation of metal detectors at every single exit and entrance of all public schools in the United States.

Metal detectors have become a common feature in several public spaces such as government buildings, airports, and courts for security purposes and it's high time that we extend this safety measure to our schools. Metal detectors can act as a strong deterrent to students who might consider bringing weapons into schools.

Statistics show that there has been a total of 288 school shootings in the United States since 2009, which is nearly 57 times as many as the other six G7 countries combined (CNN, 2018). These figures alone underline the severity and the urgent need for stronger safety measures in our schools.

We need to ensure our educational institutions are safe havens for our children where there is no room for fear. By requiring metal detectors at all entrances and exits, we can significantly increase our children's safety and peace of mind for parents.
