My four-year-old son is profoundly immunocompromised and neutropenic. He has a tracheostomy and requires a special covering over the end of it called an HME. Doctors have ordered a minimum of 60 per month, as they need to be replaced when they get dirty. However, Medicaid is only covering TEN per month. Imagine having to cover your mouth and nose with a mucus and phlegm soaked rag 
for THREE DAYS STRAIGHT, with no other way to breathe and get air. That is what Medicaid is forcing my son to do.

Many families are grappling with similar challenges across the country. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, millions of children in the United States rely on Medicaid for their healthcare needs (AAP, 2017). Yet, there are countless instances where medically necessary supplies prescribed by doctors are not fully covered.

Our children's health should never be compromised due to inadequate coverage policies. It's crucial that we address this issue urgently and ensure that all medically necessary supplies ordered by physicians for children under their care are fully covered by Medicaid.

We urge policymakers and relevant authorities to review these policies immediately and mandate full coverage for medically necessary supplies as prescribed by doctors. This will not only protect our children's health but also alleviate undue stress on families already dealing with significant medical challenges.
