On the day after valentines day .what would of been a seemingly ordinary day, my life was forever shattered. My fiancé, Jesse, was taken from this world in a senseless act of violence. He was only 34, a vibrant and loving individual with a promising future ahead of him. His life was ruthlessly stolen from not just me, but from our family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jesse was an exceptional person. He was set to be an amazing husband and a fatherly figure who always put his family first. An amazing caring son and brother ,He cherished simple joys - enjoying family BBQs, gatherings, spending time at the beach ,getting in the car and driving to find new adventures, and lending a helping hand wherever needed. His kindness was unparalleled; he'd give you the shirt off his back. Yet, his life was cut short over something as trivial as a water leak.
The pain of his loss has been compounded by the grim realization that the perpetrator could walk free after serving a mere fraction of their sentence. In honor of Jesse and countless other victims who have lost their lives to murder, we must implement stricter laws that ensure murderers face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Statistics reveal a troubling reality: less than 10% of murder convicts serve life without parole in many jurisdictions. Each year, hundreds of families endure the pain of seeing the killer of their loved ones potentially set free. This is unacceptable.
