Mandate Life-Saving Medication Administration Training Sessions for Local School Staff

Mandate Life-Saving Medication Administration Training Sessions for Local School Staff
The Issue
My life as a parent changed irrevocably when both of my children, a 6-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter, were diagnosed with congenital adrenal hyperplasia. This rare disorder affects everyday life and requires lifelong medical attention, including urgent injections during any significant illness, be it simple childhood diseases, or more serious incidences such as accidents. Schools play a significant role in a child's life. Yet they are unprepared for such medical situations. Our local school, where my son spends most of his day, lacks staff trained to administer urgent medication.
The safety of children with similar conditions hangs in the balance due to this lack of necessary training. With more than 83,000 children residing in the U.S. alone who suffer from congenital adrenal hyperplasia, this issue is neither isolated nor insignificant (source: National Institute of Health).
It is essential for school staff to be equipped with the skills to deal with these emergency situations. It is, therefore, imperative to require local community nurses to visit local schools for the purpose of training staff to administer life-saving medication.
Let us take steps toward making our schools safer for all children, including those with unavoidable and life-threatening health conditions. Sign this petition to urge our community leaders and stakeholders to implement such imperative training programs.
