As a fellow driver, I've observed how the use of e-bikes and e-trikes has surged on our roads and highways, creating safety issues. These electric vehicles, though eco-friendly and efficient, are too often operated without appropriate knowledge or training, making them notorious problems on the road. It's high time regulatory measures addressed this issue.

According to a 2020 study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a rise in electric bike-related accidents was observed, and many of those accidents could have been prevented with appropriate operator training and licensing (IIHS, 2020).

Given this concerning data, we need to ensure all e-bike and e-trike drivers on our roads possess adequate skills and knowledge to operate their vehicles safely. Proposing a new mandate that requires e-bike and e-trike drivers to possess a valid license or eligibility permit is a critical step towards this goal.
