The Issue

I remember the first time I learned about the sufferings animals go through during slaughter. There was a pang in my heart that hasn't left since. I believe, like many others, that no creature deserves to endure pain or distress. Entering a world where profits often trump morals, I've chosen to leverage my purchasing power to reflect my moral compass. Yet, one aspect where I find myself cornered is when dining out or ordering food online.

It's deeply personal to me. I don't want to cause any harm to animals or enable institutions that profit off it. Many who are aligned with this belief prefer Jhatka, where the animal is killed in a swift manner minimizing distress, as opposed to Halal, which is deemed by some to cause the animal prolonged suffering. Hence, I don't want my money to inadvertently support methods I find cruel.

Despite a growing movement of conscious consumerism, countless restaurants and food delivery platforms fail to specify the method by which their meat has been prepared. This lack of transparency means consumers like me are often left in the dark about the origins of the meat we consume, forcing us to make uninformed decisions.

Data shows that a significant section of the population prefers to align their eating habits with their ethical beliefs. According to a 2019 survey by the Humane Society, more than 47% of consumers expressed a keen interest in knowing how their meat is processed and expressed a willingness to pay more for meat that aligns with their ethical or religious beliefs.

One simple yet powerful step forward is the implementation of mandatory labeling for Jhatka or Halal preparations at all food-serving establishments and delivery platforms. By doing this, restaurants can cater to a more diverse clientele while also embracing transparency.

I'm urging regulatory bodies and food service industry leaders to take action. It's a straightforward fix that has far-reaching implications for consumers and businesses alike. Let's make conscious consumption clearer for everyone.

Join me by signing this petition to demand mandatory Jhatka labeling on all food menus and food delivery platforms. Together, we can make a difference and push for an informed dining experience.
