Mandate Increased Medical Staff Presence at Football Stadiums
The Issue
On December 16th, 2023, I fell ill at Tottenham Hotspur's stadium. The response time was far too long and the staff were not medically trained. This experience was terrifying and could have had severe consequences. It is essential that we prevent this from happening to others.
Football stadiums are places of excitement and joy for fans, but they can also be places of risk if proper medical care is not readily available. With tens of thousands of people in attendance at each game, it's statistically likely that medical emergencies will occur. Despite this fact, many stadiums lack adequate numbers of medically trained staff.
We propose a mandate requiring all football stadiums to increase their number of medically trained personnel on-site during games. This includes having medically qualified stewards ready to assist with any health-related incidents involving fans or players.
According to a study published in the Journal of Sports Medicine (2018), up to 10% of spectators may experience some form of health issue during a match - from minor injuries to serious cardiac events. The presence and quick response times of well-trained medical professionals can make the difference between life and death.
This isn't just about improving safety standards; it's about valuing human lives over cost-saving measures. Let us ensure that what happened on December 16th, 2023 does not happen again!
Please sign this petition urging football associations worldwide to mandate increased medical staff presence at all football grounds for the safety and wellbeing of everyone present.
