I am a victim of online bullying, not once or twice, but three. Each time, the tormentors have told me to take my own life. This is a horrifying reality that many people face daily on social media platforms. The anonymity that these platforms provide enables bullies to harass and intimidate without fear of real-world consequences.

According to the Cyberbullying Research Center, about 37% of young people between the ages of 12 and 17 have been bullied online (Hinduja & Patchin, 2020). This figure could be drastically reduced if social media platforms implemented mandatory ID verification for creating accounts.

By enforcing this measure, we can ensure that every user is held accountable for their actions on these platforms. It will deter potential bullies who hide behind anonymous profiles and give victims a sense of security knowing their harassers cannot easily create another account if one is blocked or reported.
