Mandate Health Insurance Coverage for Bi-Yearly Ovarian Cancer Screenings

The Issue

In October 2022, healthy 46-year-old mother & wife, Rhonda Trimble Goodson was unexpectedly and shockingly diagnosed with end-stage ovarian cancer. She passed away due to this devastating disease on September 28, 2023. This tragic story is not unique; it's a reality for many families across the country.

Ovarian cancer is often referred to as the "silent killer" because its symptoms are usually vague and can easily be mistaken for other less serious conditions. According to the American Cancer Society, only about 20% of ovarian cancers are detected at an early stage when treatment is most effective. This results in a five-year survival rate of less than 50%.

We believe that bi-yearly ovarian cancer screenings should be covered by all health insurance corporations as a preventive measure against this deadly disease. Early detection significantly increases survival rates and reduces treatment costs over time.

We call upon lawmakers and health insurance companies to make bi-yearly ovarian cancer screenings an essential part of women's healthcare coverage. This can easily be done by having a CA-125 blood test be drawn or by a transvaginal ultrasound. By doing so, we can save lives and prevent other families from experiencing the pain of losing a loved one too soon.

Please sign this petition if you believe in prioritizing women's health and preventing unnecessary loss due to late-stage diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
