The Issue

In light of the election results, the citizens of Gary can anticipate shrinking federal government subsidies.  We all know Gary citizens have limited resources, and the Gary Government has historically experienced a shortfall in the tax base and all City revenues are not enough to maintain the 50 square miles of Gary's infrastructure, adequate municipal services  and provide its best quality of life and opportunities for its citizens.  This is just a reality.  Urgent action must be taken, we need to leverage the city's assets to generate revenue, bring about economic growth, stimulate job creation, and increase our tax base.  EVERY CITY not just Gary generates its primary revenue from  property taxes, fines and fees.  The ability to generate the required and adequate  revenue from "Land Usage"  requires "Land Usage" by private entities that pay land taxes. The Government does not pay taxes.  This is a problem in Gary.

PLEASE sign this petition because the City of Gary through itself and various departments of its government own at least NINE THOUSAND (9,000) parcels of land of all types!   WE SEEK TO CONVINCE or FORCE the City to have an auction to sell all its underutilized and unused parcels that these properties may generate property taxes and take some of the burden off the existing citizens and business.

The sale of these properties would not only enrich Gary's economic portfolio but serve as a catalyst for attracting new residents and businesses, which would invariably increase our tax base. Also, construction and retail jobs would arise from the development of sold parcels, which would benefit local residents by providing them with employment opportunities.  PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE THE LINK to others.
