Mandate full disclosure of fragrance ingredients

Mandate full disclosure of fragrance ingredients
The Issue
Walking my dog on a beautiful breezy spring day, I noticed something unsettling. Instead of the fresh air I expected, I was surrounded by the constant, overpowering scent of laundry fragrances swirling around the block. This led me down a path of research where I discovered a shocking truth: many of the chemicals used in these fragrances are harmful not only to humans but also to pets and the environment. It's alarming to think that as I, like many others, willingly use these products, we might be putting our loved ones at risk.
The beauty and cleaning product industries often hide behind vague terms like "fragrance" or "parfum" that can encompass a cocktail of toxic chemicals, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and phthalates. These ingredients have been linked to various health issues and are known to negatively impact air quality and our ecosystem. Transparency should not be optional when it comes to public health.
Our homes should be a sanctuary, a safe haven for us and our pets. But without full disclosure of fragrance ingredients, this is compromised. Animals like birds and pets with respiratory issues are particularly vulnerable, yet products often carry cautions aimed only at pet owners, neglecting the broader implications on human health.
Furthermore, the detrimental effects of these chemicals extend to wildlife and our planet. The production and disposal of fragrances also demand significant resources, contaminating wastewater and polluting natural habitats. Legislation must require companies to clearly list all fragrance ingredients on product labels, or at the very least, make this information easily accessible online. By mandating transparency, brands will be held accountable, allowing consumers to make informed decisions.
Let us call on regulatory bodies to protect our citizens, pets, and planet by ensuring fragrance ingredients are fully disclosed and the harmful ones are marked in bold. Sign this petition to demand action towards healthier and safer environments for all living beings.
