The fentanyl crisis is a significant public health issue, with fentanyl being one of the most potent and deadly substances. Of all the apparent opioid-toxicity deaths in Canada, between January to June (2023), 84% of them involved fentanyl (Government of Canada). To help combat this crisis, we are urging for the provision of free fentanyl test strips at all Shoppers Drug Mart locations and safe-use sites across Toronto. These strips can detect the presence of fentanyl in other substances, potentially saving lives by preventing unintentional overdoses. By making these strips readily available and free to anyone who needs them, we can take a proactive step towards reducing harm within our community.
