Mandate Fair Pay for Flight Attendants From Clock-in to Clock-out
The Issue
I, along with countless other Flight Attendants, have to report to the airport an hour before each flight. We don our uniforms, cast aside personal matters, maintain accessibility to answer any query, assist passengers, represent our airline's brand, ensure safety checks are done on board, prepare for boarding, board on time and strive for an on time departure all without pay.
Flight Attendants spend nearly a full workweek every month working for free. Even though they’re on the job in uniform and taking responsibility for the safety and well-being of their passengers.
Additionally we have long waits between flights and frequent delays, we are on the clock, yet we receive no compensation.
This harsh reality is made harsher by the fact that almost all airlines do not pay for this requisite pre-flight time, and the handful that do pay, only contribute a small fraction of the hourly wage. This unfair practice is not reflective of the critical role we serve.
Flight attendants are indispensable front-line workers in the aviation industry. In 2019, the U.S alone had approximately 126,800 flight attendants, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics. The value we bring to these roles is incommensurate with the pay we receive.
It is high time that airlines recognize the value of our work and compensate us fairly from the moment we clock in until we clock out. Let us ensure that the dignity of our labor is recognized and valued equitably. We implore you to stand with us and sign this petition, so together, we can advocate for fair pay for ALL flight attendants.
