Mandate Employers to Provide Adequate Parking for Staff

The Issue

As a staff member at a Canadian healthcare institution, I have felt the stress of coming to work due to inadequate parking facilities. Despite having parking fees deducted from our paychecks, we frequently find ourselves without parking spots. This not only adds to our daily stress but also often results in parking tickets for us when we are forced to park in unauthorized areas.

The problem affects not just me and my colleagues but all staff in healthcare institutions across the province. In Ontario alone, of the approximately 157,000 RN positions, nearly 20,000 spots remain unfilled due to workload and stressful conditions, according to a 2020 Canadian Nurses Association report. This parking issue is one of several contributing to the growing nursing shortage, and it's expected to worsen if not addressed promptly (source: Canadian Nurses Association).

It is crucial that employers should provide safe and adequate parking facilities for their employees. Not only is it a basic provision for employee welfare, but it also has a direct impact on productivity and job satisfaction.

This is our call to action for the provincial government and employers across Canada to mandate and enforce the availability of adequate parking facilities for all employees. I urge you to support our cause and sign this petition. Let us make our daily work environment a stress-free one. Let us focus entirely on what we do best - providing top-notch care for everyone who needs it. Please sign this petition today.
