Mandate Elevator Access in All Buildings and Implement Student Mental Health Programs

The Issue

As someone personally affected by the lack of access for people with mobility issues and the struggles of mental health, I appeal for your compassion, understanding, and action. A roommate of mine, during a physically challenging time with crutches, faced unnecessary struggles in buildings lacking proper elevator access. This lack of consideration for individuals with physical disabilities is not only exclusive but a violation of basic human rights.

Additionally, growing up, I experienced firsthand the difficulties with mental health. This is not a standalone case. As per the National Institute of Mental Health, roughly 20% of all youths aged 13-18 suffer from severe mental disorders at some point. Our educational institutions, where these young adults spend most of their time, must address this critical issue by incorporating comprehensive mental health programs.

We seek your support in advocating for two necessary changes. One, to require mandated elevator access in all buildings - private or public, to accommodate individuals dealing with mobility struggles. It is about ensuring a dignifying life for everyone, regardless of their physical condition.

Secondly, we ask for the implementation of substantial mental health programs in educational institutions. These should be put in place to raise awareness, provide means for assistance, and eliminate the stigmatization associated with mental health issues.

By changing these two aspects, we can build a society that is inclusive, supportive, and compassionate. We can foster an environment where physical limitations don't restrict opportunities, and acknowledging mental health issues is not seen as a sign of weakness.

Your signature can make a significant impact. Stand with us to advocate for these changes. Help us in making our society a place where everyone feels heard, understood, and catered for. Please sign this petition.
