The Issue

My grandchildren were unjustly taken into state custody after hair follicle tests returned false positives for drugs they have never been exposed to. At ages 9 and 13, they tested positive for fentanyl and marijuana, respectively, bringing a nightmare of child endangerment charges down on our family. These erroneous results have caused untold emotional distress and legal challenges, yet neither child has ever been exposed to narcotics.

Current hair follicle drug testing procedures can lead to devastating consequences when they yield inaccurate results. False positives can arise from various factors, including environmental contamination and even dietary factors. According to the Society of Hair Testing, false positives, although rare, do occur and can have severe personal ramifications, echoing the crisis faced by my family.

A more thorough and fail-safe approach is urgently needed. I am petitioning for mandatory protocols that enforce a second hair follicle drug test within 24 hours at a different testing facility should the initial test yield a positive result. This quick, secondary test will serve as a safeguard, preventing false accusations from wrecking lives due to unreliable testing outcomes. Accurate testing is especially vital when it affects child custody and legal responsibilities.

Regulations must be updated to reflect this necessity, reducing the risk of false positives and ensuring that families are not torn apart based on faulty evidence. Implementing such a policy would ensure both accuracy and justice, preventing the grave consequences errors can incur on innocent families.

Please join me in urging local legislators and relevant authorities to establish these new testing protocols. Let's work together to protect our children and families from the harm caused by inaccurate drug testing procedures. Sign the petition to help make a critical change in drug testing policies today.
