As a motorcycle rider, I find it almost impossible to secure safe and efficient parking at most public buildings. In designated car parking spots, our motorcycles become unseen and cars swing in quickly, hitting the bikes. We do not want to park in handicapped or chevroned areas blocking access. This is a problem that affects many riders across California.

Motorcycles are an integral part of California's transportation system with over 800,000 registered motorcycles as of 2017 (California Department of Motor Vehicles). Despite this significant number, the state's infrastructure does not adequately cater to these road users' needs.

The lack of designated motorcycle parking puts both property and lives at risk. It is time for change. We call on local authorities to mandate all public buildings provide designated motorcycle parking spaces. This will ensure safety for all road users and respect the rights of motorcyclists.
