I am a survivor. Seven years of personal struggle, marked by shyness, panic attacks, and stress disorders due to enduring abuse have deeply shaped me. This ordeal did not break me, proving influential in my successful career and relationships. However, a particularly menacing event occurred that shattered my hard work - my identity was stolen.

The culprits behind this heinous crime were not just petty thieves but rather individuals involved in gang violence. They maliciously exploited my personal data, leading to a gross invasion of my privacy and inflicting further emotional damage. They crossed a line by publicly degrading me, chipping away at my hard-fought dignity, rendering me to a "trash quality" existence. This wasn't just identity theft; it was an honor killing. Showing sexualised images turning me into the legend joke of nz after being very serious about being a counsellor.

In the United States alone, an estimated 33% of adults have experienced identity theft, and this rhymes well with my unfortunate experience (source: Federal Trade Commission). The devastating impact of this crime shouldn't be underestimated and the system should protect individuals like me, especially those who've just gathered the pieces of their broken lives together.

I implore lawmakers, regulators, and criminal justice system personnel to instigate stringent measures that bolster protection against identity theft for survivors of abuse. Nobody should have to bear the brunt of this both physically and emotionally debilitating crime. Not just the usual theft, but let's also penalize the gross misuse of stolen identities intending to cause distress and harm the personal reputation.
