Mandate cps workers to have children for lived experience
The Issue
My family is going through a tough time. Recently, a CPS worker, who doesn't have any children of her own, came to my sister's house twice. She met with my children, who were staying there temporarily while I dealt with personal matters. After these visits, this worker quickly judged that my child required state intervention. I want to highlight the circumstances: My daughter missed 112 days of school due to suspensions, expulsions, and being transferred to a different school without a bus route, all while we were also recovering from being hit by a drunk driver. These are extraordinary circumstances, and yet, the judgment was swift and, in my view, lacking empathy also a defamation of my character This has made me realize that those working for Child Protective Services (CPS) play pivotal roles in families' lives. However, I believe that without firsthand parenting experience, CPS workers might lack crucial insights into parenting challenges and dynamics. Their decisions can have profound impacts on families, and they must understand the complexities involved deeply. Therefore, I am proposing a change in legislation. I urge lawmakers to consider requiring CPS workers to have children themselves to gain the lived experience necessary for this sensitive role. This change would ensure that personnel tasked with making such critical decisions are more empathetic and informed. I believe that enhancing the comprehension of parenting and child-rearing challenges among CPS workers can lead to fairer, more insightful decisions that would benefit families across the country. Please join me in advocating for this vital change. Sign this petition to support a legislative amendment that mandates lived experience as a requirement for CPS roles, ensuring better outcomes for families in need. I thought I would also add that this is not the first time CPS has come in on false allegations but I have beat both of the past two cases and can't wait to beat this one.
