Mandate CPR & First Aid Training in LAUSD Schools

Mandate CPR & First Aid Training in LAUSD Schools
The Issue
As a physical education teacher, I find myself more often than not being the first to respond to accidents on PE grounds. It is a responsibility also shared by classroom teachers whenever incidents occur during class hours. Our students' safety is paramount, and an immediate response can mean the difference between life and death. Providing first aid and CPR training to all teachers and staff within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) can guarantee a swift and educated response in emergencies, ensuring a safer school environment for our children.
We propose making first aid and CPR training mandatory in all LAUSD schools, provided at no cost to teachers and staff. It is essential that all LAUSD employees, from teachers to administrative staff, are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to handle emergencies. The training should be conducted annually to ensure that all staff members are up to date with the latest protocols and can maintain their readiness to act swiftly and effectively.
Implementing this training program is not just a reactive measure but a proactive investment in our community's safety. According to recent studies, schools that incorporate regular first aid and CPR instruction see a marked improvement in emergency response times and outcomes. By empowering educators with this critical knowledge, we create a culture of preparedness and care that will serve our students well beyond their time in school.
Join me in urging LAUSD to prioritize the well-being of our students and staff by implementing mandatory first aid and CPR training. Sign this petition to ensure every LAUSD school member is prepared to protect our students in their moments of greatest need.
