Mandate Consistent Mental Health Support Whether Employed or Not

Mandate Consistent Mental Health Support Whether Employed or Not
The Issue
Drawing from personal experiences and the daily struggle with Complex-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Schizoaffective Disorder due to sexual abuse I suffered in the 1980's, this petition seeks to ensure that people living with mental health conditions are not victimized by policy changes. The emotional blackmailing and shaming employed by UK Governments to coerce disabled persons back to work, under the guise of proposed disability benefit cuts, is not only unfair, but it is detrimental to mental health. While work can be beneficial to mental health, it must not be promoted through sanctions, poverty, or public shaming.
The issue here is not about work capabilities. It's about ensuring disabled individuals are not denied their right to essential mental health support—support that must not cease because of reemployment. Their conditions need regular assessments, irrespective of employment status. This is an essential right and should not be bargained with or made a prerequisite for benefit cuts.
Cuts in disability benefits on the government's part would only serve to worsen the mental health crisis the UK currently faces. This situation could be incredibly troubling for people who feel the Government is belittling their mental health conditions and creating a two-tier list of worthy and unworthy. Plunging these individuals back into employment without guaranteeing consistent mental health support is not only counterproductive but unethical.
The goal of the petition is simple. We demand that the UK government acknowledges mental health conditions as an enduring aspect of many disabled individuals lives. These individuals have a right to consistent mental health support, whether they are at work or not. Do not allow the government to blackmail emotionally vulnerable people into returning to work unsupported. Stand against these benefit cuts and for the prevention of further emotional distress. Please sign the petition today.
