Mandate Conjugal Visits in Maryland State Prisons

Mandate Conjugal Visits in Maryland State Prisons
The Issue
I write to you out of personal stake and concern for the incarcerated community in Maryland, particularly those yearning for a glimpse of normalcy, for the healing power of their loved ones' presence. Conjugal visits remain a luxury that most inmates don't have, and yet, the benefits these visits provide cannot be overstated.
Conjugal visits offer much more than physical intimacy. For many, it's the emotional support, the hope they inspire, which serves as a lifeline during the challenging period of incarceration. They imbibe a sense of purpose, hinting at a future beyond the prison which is worth striving for. For many, they are the beacon of light they desperately need to navigate the dark alleys of their incarceration. These visits also enhance the chances of rehabilitation by introducing positive and responsible interactions.
Research also shows that maintaining a healthy familial relationship during incarceration can significantly lower the chances of an inmate reoffending. States that have implemented regular conjugal visits have observed a considerable decrease in recidivism rates. This not only benefits the individual and their family, but it assists society at large by reducing crime and saving the state money in the long-term and that’s what we want & aiming for, that’s the goal, right? Conjugal visit will be for certain inmates with certain charges, these visits would be supervised by guards, gated and bags and person will be checked for safety. Just as it would be at any other conjugal facility
conjugal visits will reduce in person violence. Some resource suggest that the visits may reduce sexual violence between prisoners. Spending time with loved ones can be particularly important during the experience of Incarceration, it will encourage prisoners to be on good behavior to earn that time, to strengthen the bond with family members and reduce stress it will Promote better behavior, improve a post release success. like I’ve stated above - If four states including Washington, New York, California and Connecticut can have those conjugal visits. It must be doing something right and have a great feedback. Inmates are already away from their loved ones years at a time. it can reduce violence and dangerous behaviors to other inmates and guards, which can further reduce the tax rates associated with incarceration.
Therefore, we call upon legislators to mandate conjugal visits in all Maryland State Prisons. By signing this petition, you are advocating for the welfare of inmates and their families, and for a prison system that emphasizes rehabilitation over punishment. Please, sign this petition and be a part of this much-needed change.
