Mandate Composting of Food Waste in Farms and Hospitals

Mandate Composting of Food Waste in Farms and Hospitals
The Issue
In recent times, I have witnessed a terrifying increase in heat, drought, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Alongside many others, I am perturbed by these sudden changes, and the factors contributing to them. One significant contributor that often goes unnoticed is the huge volume of food waste ending up in our landfills.
Farms are responsible for discarding approximately 30% of the food they produce. When this ends up in landfills, it generates methane gas which significantly contributes to climate change. Hospitals are not much better, producing an astounding 288,401 tons of food waste in the US per year. This food waste decays anaerobically and creates even more methane, a greenhouse gas 32 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
By requiring all farms and hospitals to compost their food waste, we could drastically reduce these emissions. Moreover, the compost could be used to enrich the soil and promote further food growth, creating a continuous cycle of sustainability.
We implore you to sign this petition and take steps toward a better, more sustainable future. By requiring farms and hospitals to compost food waste, we are not only reducing waste but also mitigating the harmful environmental impacts of methane emissions. Let's turn waste into wealth and contribute to slowing down climate change. Sign now - for our Earth and for our future.
