The Issue

As a deeply concerned community member, I am alarmed by the increasing incidents of abuse, neglect, discrimination and assault on children with disabilities within Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) and other parts of Tennessee. This issue is important to those who believe that every child deserves a safe learning environment.

In recent years, there has been an alarming rise in reported cases of mistreatment towards special education students within MNPS and other parts of Tennessee. These vulnerable children are often unable to communicate their experiences effectively due to their disabilities. This makes it even more critical for us as a society to ensure their safety and well-being.

The installation of cameras in special education classrooms can serve as an effective deterrent against such instances. It will provide transparency and accountability for the actions taken within these classrooms while ensuring that any incident can be properly investigated and documented.

According to the U.S Department of Education's Civil Rights Data Collection 2017-18 report, approximately 14% of all public school students receive special education services. In MNPS alone, this translates into thousands of students who could potentially be at risk.

By mandating cameras in special education classrooms across Tennessee, we can take a significant step towards safeguarding our most vulnerable learners from harm while promoting transparency and accountability among educators.

I urge you to support this petition for the safety and well-being of our children with disabilities within MNPS and other districts in Tennessee. Please sign this petition today - because every child deserves protection and respect.
