Mandate Both Parents' Agreement for Child Piercings Under Age 12

Mandate Both Parents' Agreement for Child Piercings Under Age 12
The Issue
Five years ago, I took a stand for myself and my children, fleeing a domestic violence situation. Yet even so, the controlling tendencies of the past found their way into our lives in a new, painful form - the unauthorized piercing of my young daughter's ears, done by my ex without my permission. As the parent with primary residence of our kids, this incident deeply disturbed me. It put a spotlight on the need for both parents' agreement in making such decisions for our children.
Now, I realize it's not just my fight. All across the country, similar situations occur, leaving one parent feeling excluded and powerless. Therefore, this petition aims at changing the law that currently allows one parent to make the decision of piercing for their children under the age of 12 without the consent of the other. It's worth noting that aftercare associated with these procedures often falls on the primary caregiver, which only exacerbates the feeling of unfairness.
We believe that any decisions related to the body and well-being of our children should be made jointly. The law should support all parents, ensuring inclusion and put our children’s best interest first. So, the law must be amended to mandate that both parents' agreement be obligatory for any kind of piercing on children under the age of 12.
Join us in this fight for fairness, integrity, and the best interests of our children. Help us bring about this vital change in our laws. Please sign this petition now.
