Mandate at Least 7 Years of Education in Dinosaur Studies

The Issue

My fascination for dinosaurs has been a lifelong journey. However, it disheartens me that the curriculum in our schools does not adequately cover the vast topic of dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are not just colossal prehistoric creatures; understanding them could lead us to valuable insights into the earth's history, climate shifts, and possibly even predictions about the future.

Currently, the subject of dinosaurs is treated as a minor part of the K-12 biology or science curriculum. Yet, these majestic creatures ruled our planet for 165 million years, which represents a significant period compared to humanity's existence. According to a study published in the journal Science, there were about 1,543 known species of dinosaurs as of 2014, each with distinctive characteristics and environments, requiring intense study (Scannella, John, and Horner Jack, Science Journal, 2014).

This wealth of knowledge about dinosaurs holds the potential to pique students' curiosity and nurture a generation of young paleontologists, scientists, and educated individuals who appreciate the extensive history of life on earth.

Why isn't it crucial to you? We all stand to benefit from an in-depth study of dinosaurs as it promotes critical thinking, spawns interest in scientific research and contributes to the cultural capital of our society. Hence, I call upon our educational authorities to enforce a mandate for teaching about dinosaurs in depth for at least seven years within the school curriculum. We must cherish our natural history and extend our scientific knowledge to future generations. Please sign this petition and support this cause.
