Mandate All Schools to Excuse Seventh Day Adventists from Saturday Classes
The Issue
I am a Seventh Day Adventist and have witnessed firsthand the struggle that my friends go through when they are required by their schools to attend classes on Saturdays. This requirement not only infringes on their religious rights but also deprives them of participating in our church services, which are an integral part of our faith.
The Seventh Day Adventist Church observes the Sabbath from Friday evening to Saturday evening, a practice rooted in biblical teachings (Genesis 2:2-3). As such, it is crucial for members of this faith to be excused from school activities during this period.
In the United States alone, there are over 1 million Seventh Day Adventists (Pew Research Center), many of whom could be facing this issue. It's not just about religious freedom; it's about respecting diversity and ensuring equal opportunities for all students.
We urge educational institutions across the country to respect these religious observances and make necessary accommodations. This includes excusing Seventh Day Adventist students from attending classes or any school-related activities held on Saturdays.
Please sign this petition and support our call for change – because no student should have to choose between their education and their faith.
