Mandate Access to Clean Water and 24/7 Public Restrooms in All Public Spaces
The Issue
Grounded in my belief that clean drinking water is an inherent human right, addressing the lack of available water and restroom facilities in our public spaces is imperative. Everyone should have access to these necessities, yet our current status quo falls short.
Providing clean water is not just about quenching thirst. The World Health Organization estimates that for every $1 invested in water and sanitation, there is an approximately $4 economic return from lower health costs, more productivity, and fewer premature deaths (Source: WHO). Yet, in the world's wealthiest nation, 30% of low-income workers lack access to water and sanitation (Source: Pacific Institute for Research).
Alongside clean water, 24/7 public restroom availability is a related critical issue. It upholds dignity, health, and safety, especially for those living on the streets or who cannot always access private facilities. Beyond that, it benefits all people, regardless of their living conditions.
By mandating that public spaces provide clean water and maintain restrooms at all hours, we would be taking a significant step towards ensuring that basic human dignity and health are universally accessible and not seen as mere privileges. Sign this petition and help us advocate for the guarantee of these fundamental rights for all.
