Mandate a National Domestic Violence Offender Registry

Mandate a National Domestic Violence Offender Registry
The Issue
I am beyond exhausted from waiting for our legal system to effectively step in and protect men and women trapped in domestic violence (DV) situations! Restraining orders prove futile, and even when they manage to have an effect, perpetrators often merely receive a slap on the wrist. I want to make a profound change.
The repercussions of domestic violence ripple through countless lives, leaving victims feeling trapped and vulnerable. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, approximately 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. This equates to more than 10 million individuals each year. These staggering statistics reflect just how pervasive this issue remains, highlighting the urgent need for systemic change.
A national registry for domestic violence offenders would create a pathway for increased safety and empowerment for victims across the country. Such a registry would function similarly to the national sex offender registry, offering transparency and awareness about individuals who present a potential threat. It would allow law enforcement agencies to track offenders proactively and deter potential violators by establishing serious consequences.
By mandating this registry, we can elevate awareness among communities and give victims a supportive network of protection. The establishment of this registry would be a legislative milestone, ensuring that domestic violence offenders cannot hide in anonymity.
It’s time for Congress to act responsibly and decisively to protect its citizens. Together, we have the power to catalyze this change. Sign this petition and help convince Congress to pass a law mandating a national registry for domestic violence offenders, an essential step toward safeguarding the lives and futures of millions.
