Today, we are in the midst of a huge pandemic, the covid-19 which has dominated all the technological and medical advancements available today in the world.

Now, there are predictions that the pandemic will mostly be in peaks during Jul-Aug periods, especially in India, due to the extreme population.

In light of the above situation, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, in his webinar with heads of various universities, has said that universities must conduct exams for final years alone and promote everyone else, based on internal marks or internal + previous semester marks. Earlier, UGC also urged universities in the highly affected areas/states, to strictly follow the social distancing and promote intermediate students to next academic year based on internals and previous semester scores.

(According to UGC, intermediate semester students are those in 1-6th semesters of their graduation programs)

As Tamil Nadu is the second most coronavirus affected states of India,
We, the students of VIT, urge and kindly request VIT management, Dean academics and all other concerned authorities or people in VIT, to cancel the final exams (FATs) for the winter semester (2019-20) and promote the students in the intermediate semesters directly, on the basis of internals or any other valid scores.

Further, as the fall semester wishlist is scheduled in June, pre-final year students have to decide number of credits to be taken, which is not possoble without completion of FATs and grading  of the new VITOL courses. Hence, we request VIT to promote the VITOL courses on fhe basis of internals or assign grades using any other alternative, before the wishlist.

In this situation, even many renowned institutions (including many IITs), have cancelled their examinations, saying safety and health more important than marks or grades.

Thus, we hope VIT, which is a renowned institute as well, considers the request and takes the safety of students who come to VIT from various states of India, into account! After all, health and safety is the most important for everyone.

We, all the students of VIT, strongly believe that whatever decision is taken, will be in favour of students safety!
