"Voice of Youth" Demands Immediate improvement of Drainage System of Railpar, Asansol WB
The Issue
Dear Smt Mamata Banarjee (Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal), Shri Moloy Ghatak (Hon'ble MLA, Asansol Uttar Assembly), Shri Vibhu Goel (Hon'ble District Magistrate of Paschim Bardhaman) and The Chairman/Administrator of Asansol Municipal Corporation and Asansol Durgapur Developement Authority, We are writing to your reputed self to express our concern over the issue of poor drainage in the entire
city and much effected Railpar area (especially Ward No.: 24, 25, 26 & 28), especially during the rainy season due to the occurring flood over Nunia River, which causes much inconvenience to the residents. This rainy season our city had copious rainfall. The entire Railpar and other municipal area was flooded. Our city was no exception. You will be shocked to know even after almost a month of the rainfall, the rainwater has not been drained. The simple reason behind this flooding of the city roads is poor drainage system. The high areas are clear and clean. The rain water has been drained from there. The problem is with the low areas which comes under Railpar, where the drainage system has been faulty. Consequently, the whole traffic is dislocated and life comes to a grinding halt during rains. The PWD department’s inefficiency has been exposed. Many mishaps owing to the water on roads also take place quite frequently. Due to this improper system of drainage, rain water comes under the residential area of Railpar, as you know that Railpar has a high density of population we have to suffer from loss of life as well as wealth. Recently in this flood we suffered from the loss of our brother Engineer Md Iftekhar Alam.
The stagnated water has been causing serious health issues. Malaria, dengue, chikungunya, apart from stink and travelling problems have made the life of Railpar residents literal hell. The concerned authorities’ apathy to the ongoing problems is outrageously shocking. I appeal to your kind self to look into the matter and expedite the repairing of the faulty drainage system. May we hope now that you would immediate look into the matter and take urgent steps to avoid such public nuisance?
