LIFTs for overhead bridge near Loyang Valley, for Seniors and Mobility Challenged

The Issue

There is a sizeable number of seniors, parents with babies in prams and mobility challenged individuals residing in Loyang Valley, the iconic red-bricked condominium located along Loyang Avenue, the road that leads to Changi Village. Many still commute by public transport and traverse Loyang Avenue dangerously because they either lack the strength to climb the steep staircase leading up to the pedestrian bridge or are just in a situation that makes it physically impossible or near impossible for them to do so.

Building a pair of lifts at the overpass will encourage them to consider the safer option available, to cross this very busy road. Loyang Avenue sees many heavy vehicles plying it and the occasional speeding car. Seeing pedestrians dodging traffic while overcoming the obstacle course comprising the road median guard rails and the queue of vehicles turning into the condominium, one cannot dismiss that the scene looks like a tragic event waiting to happen.

For the seniors, the wheel chair bound and the ones pushing a baby in a pram, this is an almost daily struggle.

To add insult to injury, seniors have been witnessed getting booked by traffic police for jaywalking.

I am appealing to the humanity of the powers-that-be.

Please help them by supporting this petition and spreading the word. I would like to hit 1000 signatures before I submit this petition together with the letter of appeal for the construction of the lifts, to the Members of Parliament of East Coast GRC.
