No one's equal until EVERYONE'S equal
The Issue
Inequality
[ in-i-kwol-i-tee ]
1. the condition of being unequal; lack of equality; disparity
2. social or economic disparity
Inequality exists in many different forms but the one that plagues many Malaysians would be racial inequality which has been embedded into society at a individual, institutional and cultural level.
Malaysia's own racial inequality is best shown through its income inequality which was a remainder of Britain's colonisation of the country.
Currently, 72% of Bumiputera are left with no financial assets while the Chinese and Indians who do not have financial assets are 21% and 7% respectively.
But the Indigenous groups are the worst leftover, receiving none of the same benefits the other races have in terms of social and economic prospects because they have yet to be recognised for registration documentation.
While there has been efforts by Pusat Komas and the government to reduce the racial inequality, like the human rights festival and International Convention of the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), this is a systemic problem that needs a more national effort that binds all of the people together.
It is hoped that this petition will help to raise awareness of this problem and also cause the government to think of better reforms to make life equal for all.
