Presently a specific ceremony of  lowering of the flags  at the Attari-Wagah border is  organised  daily in the evening jointly by the security forces of India (Border Security Force, BSF) and Pakistan (Pakistan Rangers) . It is the military practice  followed since 1959 which demonstrates the symbol of rivalry between the both  countries. Similar ceremonies are conducted at the Mahavir/Sadqi border near Fazilka, and the Hussainiwala/Ganda Singh Wala border near Firozpur. The ceremony is attended by a large number of people including youth and children from both sides of Indian and Pakistan .. It is demonstrated in such an aggressive way by soldiers of both sides of border which create hatred feelings among people of both the countries especially among  youth and children. It also tarnish the image of both the countries at international level because the ceremony is  attended  by  international tourists also. Therefore there is a dire need to change the nature of this ceremony from aggressive  to peaceful mode. Instead of the military drill this platform can be used every day to spread message of peace and brotherhood and unite the minds of the people of both the countries through a cultural exchange programmes. Artists , writers, social wrokers  and other peace loving eminent personalities from both the countries may be encouraged to perform creative and constructive activities for spreading message of love , peace and brotherhood between both the nations .It would also reduce the degree of enmity between present and the upcoming generations of the two countries.
