As new generations filter into Cal Poly, more and more students are looking for dairy alternatives in their drinks and everyday food. More and more people are becoming vegan and trying to eat healthier. However, the up pricing of milk substitutes is discouraging students from perusing their healthier way of living. 

Making milk substitutes the same price as regular milk will encourage more people to substitute for the healthier options. A decrease in the prices of the substitutes will increase the amount of purchased plant-based alternatives. This will in turn reduce the amount of non-plant-based products that on-campus dining facilities need to purchase, which will make up for the price drop of the alternatives. 

As human beings, we are trying to keep this planet alive for as long as possible and taking the more environmentally friendly route will help us do just that. Switching to plant-based alternatives helps saving thousands of gallons of water that would have otherwise been given to slaving dairy cows that would rather be set free. Reducing the prices of these alternatives is one of the small steps that we can take to bettering the world.
