Make Woodlawn, Chicago a safer neighborhood!

The Issue

There are two troubled buildings on our block (6139-6143 & 6134-6144 S. Kimbark, AKA "The Woodlawn Six") where gun violence, drug sales, crime, and nuisance behavior persists despite the efforts of the police, alderman’s office, and community leaders. Changing ownership and management has not changed the continuous violence and crime with these two buildings. The latest victim is 3 year old Devon Quinn shot and paralyzed on Father's Day 2016. The violence needs to stop! Prior solutions have not stopped the violence! Only eliminating the HUD contract will remove those who live or attract those who come there to commit crime and perpetuate violence. The residents on the street and community will be safer from the harm that has continued for over a decade. We need your support - tell HUD to cancel this contract, help relocate qualified residents to safer buildings, and return these two buildings to fair market housing for other Chicago residents needing affordable housing.
