Make West Wyomissing Boulevard Sidewalks Accessible and Safe for All

The Issue

As a proud alum of Wilson High School, I recall the many challenging moments of walking to and from school along West Wyomissing Boulevard during all seasons. The road teems with traffic, making it a constant source of danger for high school students who have to walk upon it.

The picture is clear: there are no sidewalks on West Wyomissing Boulevard and much of the road has little lighting making it inaccessible and unsafe for pedestrians. As residents of a strong community, we owe it to ourselves, our peers, and the newcomers among us to create pathways that are navigable and conducive to our health and safety.

A 2017 report from the National Safety Council states that over 6,000 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents nationwide. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for infrastructure improvements, not just as a want, but as a requirement to prevent accidents that can very well be avoided.

We call on our local authorities to work towards addressing this unprecedented crisis, by implementing immediate infrastructure upgrades, installing enhanced pedestrian safety measures. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that our neighborhoods remain safe havens for everyone who lives in or visits them. We must be inclusive to all individuals regardless of their disability.

Let's join hands to bring about a safer, more wholesome experience for our students and our community members on West Wyomissing Boulevard. Please sign this petition and let our collective voices ring out for change.
