Waterbeach has a major traffic problem. Our village roads are full of fast-moving cars, vans and lorries - making our roads and footpaths unsafe for pedestrians, cyclists and more. Children, older people and those with mobility issues particularly at risk.

We need a new 20mph zone for the whole village. These have already been introduced (by Cambridgeshire County Council) to great success, elsewhere in Cambridgeshire - with over a dozen new zones already being introduced across the County.

One of the completed 20mph projects (in Oakington & Westwick) has  already resulted in a reduction of the average speed from 36mph to 24mph. That could be the difference between life and death in a collision. 

To successfully become a 20mph zone, Waterbeach needs to prove that the idea has community support. This petition would help to do that, and would support our Parish Council in making their bid to the County Council for a 20mph zone in Waterbeach Village.

Our village already suffered a fatal road tragedy in recent years - which led to some long overdue improvements on the A10. Let’s not wait for the same thing to happen in the village before action is taken to make our roads and paths safer.
