Make Warnbro Sound Avenue safe for our children

Make Warnbro Sound Avenue safe for our children
The issue
I drive along Warnbro Sound Avenue every day, and recently, I witnessed a heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken our community. A young boy lost his life after being hit by a car on this extremely unsafe main road—especially perilous during school hours. This was a call for urgent action, and yet, day after day, I see no noticeable changes to prevent future tragedies.
Warnbro Sound Avenue is a major thoroughfare outside Warnbro Community High School, and it desperately needs safety improvements to protect our children. The road is busy, with cars zooming by, and it presents a significant hazard, particularly when school is in session. Students, parents, and teachers navigate this unsafe crossing every day, risking their lives.
The recent accident was a devastating reminder of the dangers our children face. We cannot allow such tragedies to continue. We need immediate intervention from our local government and police to review the safety of this road. It is imperative that they conduct a thorough inspection and consider the implementation of protective measures like fences or barriers along the road. These barriers would deter and stop children and pedestrians from running onto the road, creating a safer environment for students and all community members.
There's substantial evidence showing that road barriers significantly reduce the risk of pedestrian accidents. According to data from respected traffic safety studies, roads with protective barriers have seen a marked decrease in accidents involving pedestrians. By taking similar measures here in Warnbro, we can safeguard our children and prevent future heartbreaks.
As well as this, extending the speed limit to 40km/hr from 70km on this stretch of road will also increase road saftey for pedestrians.
Our call is simple yet powerful: let's not wait for another tragedy to spur action. Join me in urging our local authorities to prioritize the safety of our children by conducting a review and implementing necessary safety measures on Warnbro Sound Avenue. This simple change could save lives and bring peace of mind to everyone in our community. I urge you to sign this petition and help make our roads safer for our children.
