Visakhapatnam has one of the most beautiful beaches in India thanks to the constant maintenance and upkeep of the whole city over the past many years. But over the past few years the amount of litter and plastic waste on the beach has increased considerably.

Beach cleaning campaigns have been done by many and will be done in the future as well. But the basic requirement and the best solution to keep our beaches clean is not cleaning the litter, but by avoiding it. The seemingly best solution is to make the beaches and beach road litter free zone and enforce strict rules with huge penalties for littering in these areas.

Plastic menace is also some thing we need to work on. Not only plastic is a major pollutant it also affects the eco system of the sea, killing many aqua species. To reduce the usage of plastics in the beach, selling of at least plastic water packets should be banned in the shops on beach road.

Releasing of untreated drain water from the city into the sea should also be stopped as they are a primary source for pollution. Please also enforce laws that only mud idols will be allowed for immersion at the beach.

We urge you to immediately take measures to make Vizag's beaches and beach road LITTER FREE and PLASTIC FREE. We also urge that such rules if any exist or be created in future, should be implemented strictly.
