Make Villa Rica, GA a safe walkable city

Make Villa Rica, GA a safe walkable city
The Issue
Walking anywhere along our roads in Villa Rica, Georgia feels unsafe.
Right now, there are no sidewalks or protected walkways connecting many residents to shopping areas, walking trails, neighboring communities, or even to each other. People are forced to walk along narrow shoulders, through overgrown roadsides, or dangerously close to fast-moving traffic just to get where they need to go.
At all hours of the day and night, cars speed through these roads while families, children, runners, cyclists, elderly residents, and neighbors trying to enjoy a simple walk are left with nowhere safe to go. It’s common to see people stepping into ditches or pressed against the edge of the road to avoid oncoming vehicles.
This is not just an inconvenience. It’s a serious public safety issue.
Everyone deserves the ability to safely walk within their own community — whether that means visiting local businesses, exercising outdoors, walking with family, accessing nearby trails, or simply getting fresh air without fearing traffic.
Adding sidewalks, safe crosswalks, better lighting, and traffic-calming measures would completely change the quality of life in Villa Rica. These improvements would make our city safer, healthier, more connected, and more welcoming for everyone.
Walkable communities encourage local business growth, create stronger neighborhood connections, improve accessibility, and help residents feel more connected to where they live. Villa Rica has so much potential to become a safer and more community-focused city, but right now many residents don’t even have a safe place to walk.
We should not have to risk our safety to move through our own neighborhoods.
We are calling on Villa Rica city officials to prioritize pedestrian safety and invest in sidewalks and walkable infrastructure throughout our community. Please sign this petition to support a safer, more connected, and more walkable Villa Rica for current and future residents.
