Make veterans tax exempt for life
The Issue
I served this country with unwavering dedication for over 20 years, and like countless veterans, was medically released due to service-related injuries. Throughout MY career, I sacrificed not only my youth but also my health for our nation. It's painful to see other Veterans burdened by taxes in their retirement when all they did was tirelessly work to safeguard our freedoms.
Veterans like myself have given so much, enduring treacherous conditions and extraordinary stress while defending our rights and liberties. Upon returning, many find themselves navigating civilian life with injuries—both visible and invisible—that impact their daily lives. It's a travesty that they are subjected to taxation after having dedicated their entire careers in service to our nation. These individuals deserve the highest level of respect and gratitude that the United States can offer, and one profound way to show this is by offering them a tax-exempt status for the remainder of their lives.
Currently, veterans who have served 20 or more years and are medically released due to service-related injuries receive some support, yet the burden of taxes is a constant reminder of a system that needs improvement. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, veterans receive disability compensation. These veterans have sustained injuries ranging from physical loss to PTSD, which affects nearly 20% of veterans annually. The costs of healthcare, living expenses, and rehabilitation are tremendous, and taxation further exacerbates these financial challenges.
We propose that Parliament amend the tax code to grant federally tax-exempt status to veterans who have served 20 or more years and are medically released due to service-related injuries. This act would not only provide much-needed financial relief but also serve as a testament to our Country's appreciation and respect for their sacrifices.
Let's stand together to provide lasting acknowledgment for their bravery and dedication. By supporting this petition, we can urge lawmakers to take meaningful action. It's more than just giving a free coffee on Veterans Day; it's about ensuring that their sacrifices are recognized and financially appreciated for a lifetime.
Sign this petition to honor and relieve the financial burden of our brave veterans, ensuring they receive the dignity and respect they deserve for their lifetime of service.
