Make UK MPs Earn the National Minimum Wage

Make UK MPs Earn the National Minimum Wage
The Issue
As a concerned UK citizen, I am deeply worried about the unstoppable rise of economic inequality and the alarming rate at which our nation is falling into poverty. It has become increasingly clear to me that our representatives in parliament are prioritising their own financial gain over the needs and struggles of their constituents.
Our elected officials, having been put in their positions by the public and for the public, should not be earning significantly more than those they represent. As the UK falls in ranking amongst the wealthiest nations - we are now ranked 23rd on the global wealth list (source: Global Wealth Report 2021) - it is only fair to ask our MPs, who are responsible for shaping and voting on policies that directly affect us, to share the burden of our reality.
I propose that MPs should be made to work for the national minimum wage, to both reduce the cost of living crisis and to keep them grounded in the harsh realities that so many in our nation face. I believe this policy will serve as a valuable reminder to them of their role as public servants, and will hopefully redirect their focus towards tackling the economic issues plaguing our society.
For a country that was once one of the wealthiest in the world, it is unacceptable to witness the ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor, especially when the supposed protectors of the working class are amongst those exploiting it. It's time our MPs experience the financial struggles that far too many UK citizens face daily.
