The Issue

Make Tupelo Safer — Ban Grass Clippings on Roads

🚫 Who is impacted?

He almost wrecked. A lifelong rider, hit a patch of grass in a curve—and his bike slid hard. He managed to keep it upright, but it could’ve ended very differently. Not because he was reckless or speeding. Because someone blew grass into the road.

This happens all over Tupelo. And it’s not just motorcyclists—cyclists, runners, and even walkers are at risk. Grass clippings may not seem like a big deal—until someone gets hurt.

⚠️ Why it matters

Fresh or wet clippings are slick like ice. One wrong turn or quick stop, and someone’s on the pavement.

This isn’t about blame—it’s about common sense and public safety. Other cities have passed simple laws to stop it. Tupelo can too.

⏰ Why now?

The mowers are out. People are walking, riding, running—and the grass is flying. We’ve even seen what looks like city workers blowing clippings into the road. This should apply to everyone—residents, businesses, and city crews alike.

It’s an easy fix. Let’s make it happen before someone ends up in the hospital—or worse.

🌱 And let’s be honest—it looks bad

Clippings in the street don’t just cause crashes. They clog drains, pile up in gutters, and make Tupelo look sloppy.

Clean streets show pride. Messy ones send the wrong message.

📜 What we’re asking:

We’re calling on the Tupelo City Council to pass a simple ordinance:

“No person shall knowingly blow, deposit, or leave grass clippings, yard waste, or similar debris on any public roadway, sidewalk, or right-of-way. Violators may be subject to a warning or a fine not exceeding $100.”

✅ How you can help:

Sign this petition now.
Share it with friends, neighbors, and riding groups.
Contact your Council rep. Ask them to support the ordinance.
Help us reach 1,000 signatures before the next Council meeting.

Let’s protect lives, clean up our streets, and show that Tupelo takes pride in its people—and its roads.
