Make Transit Rides Free for Students on Curriculum-Based Field Trips!
The Issue
THEMUSEUM.ca offered a 2022 pilot project with free admission for schools to attend its curriculum programs. It was a huge success allowing accessibility for all students. Working with the school boards THEMUSEUM also offered limited busing to low income areas. Busing is a major barrier for students to attend curriculum-based field trips to arts & culture organizations.
THEMUSEUM will continue to pursue ways to make its education accessible but seeks your voice to ensure that Region of Waterloo Councillors allow students and teachers free transportation for curriculum-based field trips.
Please support and share the petition!
This will not impact revenue as it is off-peak times and few school if any can afford the Grand River Transit system.
This will:
Encourage young people to use public transportation.
Create lifelong transit users.
Offer accessibility to smaller groups/schools who cannot afford buses.
Encourage community integration and experiential learning.
Support environment and Region's 80/50 quest for carbon reduction.
Reduce traffic congestion.
Support arts & cultural groups across the Region.
Improve quality of life for students through increased access.
Show leadership and vision as a Smart Community.
