Make the Shuppet Pokémon Line Ghost/Dark Type

The Issue

Shuppet and its evolution, Banette, are currently classified as Ghost-type Pokémon in the Pokémon franchise. However, many fans and players believe that these Pokémon would be better represented as Ghost/Dark types. Their mischievous, dark behavior and eerie aesthetics align closely with traits commonly associated with Dark-types, and the current Ghost-only classification doesn’t fully capture their unique nature.

Banette, in particular, is all about vengeance, relentlessly hunting down the person who abandoned it to exact revenge. This strong desire for retribution, along with its eerie, vengeful backstory, reflects the core themes of Dark-type Pokémon—traits that are far beyond simple ghostliness.

Dark is often referred to as the "evil" type in Japan, the country where Pokémon originated, and this perfectly matches the sinister qualities of Shuppet and Banette. Their actions, as well as their designs, reflect a blend of both Ghost and Dark attributes.

Shuppet's Pokédex Entries Supporting Dark-Type Traits:

Pokémon Ruby: "Shuppet is drawn to sadness and anger. It is a ghost Pokémon that feeds on negative emotions."
Pokémon Diamond: "Shuppet is known to be drawn to people with strong negative feelings. It feeds on those feelings, growing stronger."
Pokémon Black 2: "Shuppet is attracted to people who are lonely or have negative emotions. It loves to stir up trouble."
These entries showcase Shuppet’s affinity for negative emotions, mischief, and disruption, qualities that closely align with Dark-type Pokémon.

Pokédex Entries Supporting Banette’s Dark Nature:

Pokémon Ruby: "Banette is said to be a ghost Pokémon. It was abandoned by its parents and left to wander in the darkness, seeking revenge on those who wronged it."
Pokémon Diamond: "Banette was originally a plush doll. It seeks revenge on the person who abandoned it, relentlessly hunting them down."
Pokémon Black 2: "It seeks the child who disowned it. It will not rest until it achieves revenge."
These entries show Banette´s intense desire for revenge, a key characteristic of Dark-type Pokémon, aligning it with the themes of malice and darkness.

By reclassifying Shuppet and Banette as Ghost/Dark types, Pokémon battles could gain a fresh strategic dynamic, offering players a more distinct experience. This change would also honor their rightful place in the franchise’s lore.

Let's elevate our favorite puppets to the position they deserve. Sign this petition to urge The Pokémon Company and Game Freak to update the Shuppet line and give them the recognition they deserve!
