Make the Park & Clinton Crosswalk Safer for Everyone

Make the Park & Clinton Crosswalk Safer for Everyone
The Issue
We, the residents and visitors of Alameda, are calling on the City of Alameda to urgently improve pedestrian safety at the intersection of Park Street and Clinton Avenue by installing pedestrian-activated flashing lights or other traffic-calming measures.
This crosswalk is used by families, children, and neighbors every day, but it is dangerously unsafe. Many drivers fail to stop, particularly at night, even when pedestrians are clearly visible.
Several community members have experienced near misses, including a recent incident where a mother crossing with her child in a stroller was nearly hit by a car that overtook another vehicle already stopped at the crosswalk.
Tragically, a fatality occurred at this intersection several years ago.
These are not isolated incidents but a part of an ongoing pattern of preventable risk that must be addressed before another tragedy occurs.
We urge the City to:
-Install pedestrian-activated flashing lights
-Consider additional safety upgrades (e.g., curb extensions, speed bumps, signage, reduced speed limits, etc.)
-Prioritize this intersection for evaluation in ongoing transportation safety planning
We are asking for action now, before it’s too late.
