The Issue

I am a victim of an unanticipated medical complication due to the use of Filshie clips during sterilisation. Uninformed about their usage, I suffered severe consequences that led to a total hysterectomy and numerous operations to repair damage done by them being embedded in my uterus.

The National Health Service (NHS) currently uses Filshie clips during sterilisation procedures without providing clear warnings or obtaining informed consent from patients. This lack of transparency has resulted in thousands of women, like myself, suffering from unexpected and often serious complications.

According to a study published in the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynaecology, complications related to Filshie clips include chronic pain, infection, clip migration leading to organ damage or perforation (Source: Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynaecology). Despite these potential risks associated with their use, patients are not adequately informed about these possible outcomes.

We call upon the NHS to either cease using Filshie clips altogether or ensure that clear warnings are included in consent procedures for sterilisation. Patients have a right to be fully informed about all aspects of their medical treatment - including potential risks - before they give consent.

Please sign this petition if you believe that every woman should have full knowledge and understanding before making such life-altering decisions about her body. Your signature can help prevent others from experiencing similar trauma and hardship as I did due to uninformed consent.
