As a nearby resident of the intersection of 259 North Ave. and Curtis Road in Hilton, NY, the astounding number of accidents I witness at this location troubles me. With speeding vehicles along 259 and low visibility from the hill just North of the intersection, the risk of accidents is high. The disregard for the stop signs on Curtis Road further threatens the safety of our community.

According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), intersections can be particularly dangerous – nearly 50% of traffic crashes occur at or near intersections. This intersection is of pivotal concern due to its physical configuration and the frequent violations of traffic signals.

To protect the community, appropriate safety measures must be put in place. This could include enhanced sign visibility, speed limit enforcement or perhaps the installation of stop lights.
