Make the House of Representatives sign the Save Our Seas Act 2.0
The Issue
Imagine you're sitting on a beach. Seagulls fly overhead as you gaze out upon the vast waters, nothing but blue for miles and miles. Now imagine you're sitting on a beach. No birds fly overhead and you gaze out upon plastic bottles, plastic bags, and debris of every shape and color, nothing but trash for miles and miles.
Each day, 8 million pieces of plastic enter the oceans. Each year, 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals die as a result of marine plastic. Each year, more people die from unsafe water than from war. By 2050, the global demand for freshwater is expected to be 33% greater than it is now. The statistics about the devastating effects of water pollution go on and on, but one thing is for certain. Water Pollution becomes more of a problem every second, and every second we don't make a change is a step closer to the unimaginable consequences we face if we don't do something about it!
On January 9, 2020, The Senate passed the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act, sponsored by Senator Dan Sullivan. This bill supports improving the ability of the United States to clean up waste and respond to major debris events, gaining the support of other countries around the globe, and exploring new ways to prevent marine debris. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration, and to the following committees: Agriculture, Energy and Commerce, Foreign Affairs, Natural Resources, Science, Space, and Technology, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Commerce, Science, and Transportation. I would like to ask the chairs of these committees to consider this bill and do everything in their power to get it passed, and I'd like you to support me! This bill has the potential to make an immense impact in the fight against water pollution, and would help us grow closer to a solution to save our planet! The time is now to make a difference! If we don't join the fight now, there won't be a better time later!
